A teenage boy was discovered deceased just days after being wrongly blamed of taking the ashes of a dead baby during a burglary, an inquest has heard.

Heartbreaking Finding

The young boy's parents discovered his remains in his room at his Connah's Quay residence on 19 November 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The inquest heard how his mother got a message on November 8th, 2021 via online platforms, from a individual inquiring if her son was her child. The message stated: "Tell him thanks for burgling my flat."

In a testimony read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the woman had been in the news, claiming her baby's ashes had been stolen in a burglary - a allegation which was false.

Police Inquiry

An official inquiry from police later concluded the supposed break-in complainant had "lied to police" and "evidence shows that the property was never stolen in the first place".

Media reports about the supposed taken ashes generated online comments, and although the teenager was not identified in the posts, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were extremely distressing", she stated.

Mental Wellbeing Effect

She explained that Kai had been diagnosed with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions really were important to him.

"It would have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was not true".

Kai was arrested at his residence, but no evidence was found. He was taken to a police station and later released under investigation.

Police said they would be in contact, the inquest learned, but had not contacted the family by the time of his passing.

Isolation and Anxiety

His mother said Kai "became isolated" after the detention and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his condition meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like much longer".

When she talked to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son informed her he had entered the residence because the resident who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom whenever he wanted, but refuted taking anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her spouse, Mrs Lloyd said her child was being harassed online after the allegations.

The proceedings learned that one 19-year-old encouraged Kai to kill himself.

She had no concerns on the evening before he passed away, explaining how she had heard him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "compassionate, loving" young man, and said her "relatives is completely devastated".

He had been "obviously hiding his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "have negative thoughts of him".

Educational Response

The hearing received testimony from educational personnel at Connah's Quay secondary school.

On November 8th, she "overheard some students discussing that the student had been detained and that was the first I learned".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she continued.

After the conversation, the educator said she called the family's family telephone and provided a message saying she had communicated to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they never got that communication.

Formal Finding

Senior investigator told the inquest he would await documents regarding what improvements had been made to dealing with individuals with ADHD, before determining whether he should make a avoidance of future fatalities report.

Providing a descriptive conclusion, he stated: "Around 8 November 2021, unsupported accusations were made against the teenager, a young child.

"Probably untruths were afterwards embellished and exaggerated through the platform of social media.

"On November 11th, he was questioned by the authorities and after his questioning he was released whilst inquiries continued."

The official concluded: "Exists no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization caused or contributed to his passing and although it was the outcome of a personal action it is not possible to determine his intent."
