Magic: The Gathering Reprints 4 Essential Commander Cards with Play-Doh Inspired Designs
The popular trading card game has announced its annual partnership with the Extra Life charity, a charity program dedicated to children's hospitals. The latest initiative features a special Secret Lair drop titled Secret Lair X Play-Doh: Squishful Thinking, which showcases four highly sought-after Commander format cards featuring charming art inspired by the classic Play-Doh modeling compound.
Discover the Reprinted Cards
Greensleeves, Maro-Sorcerer first appeared in a Dominaria United Commander and is a popular choice in landfall and ramp strategies due to its ability to generate Badger tokens. Polyraptor made its debut in the prehistoric set Ixalan block and is played not only in creature-type decks but also in synergy-focused strategies that leverage its copying ability. Wurmcoil Engine and Academy Manufactor are both common in Commander decks—the first for being a timeless colorless value creature, and the second for its combo potential.
Pricing and Philanthropic Support
These cards are overly costly (assuming you no longer gasp at moderately priced singles), but these are appreciated reprints even for those uninterested in the colorful art. All four cards shares the ability to create tokens, reflecting the imaginative play that Play-Doh has inspired in multiple eras of children. Wizards will further support the charity through a charity livestream on the streaming platform on Nov. 8, running from 11 a.m. PT to 10:30 p.m. PT.
Release Details and Cost
The Squishful Thinking Secret Lair drop will be offered online from Sept. 29 to Nov. 9 and will be printed to demand—a notable shift from previous restricted releases. Moreover, a small number will be sold at the MagicCon: Atlanta merchandise booth from Sept. 26–28. The non-foil set is priced at $39.99, and the premium version at $49.99. Half of the proceeds will go to Extra Life and the affiliated children's hospital.
