British Premier Turns to £150bn Funding Deal to Counter Backlash Over US President's Official Trip
Keir Starmer has acted to defuse a politically sensitive official trip by Donald Trump with the revelation of £150 billion in US investment for the UK, as the president remained largely within the grounds of Windsor Castle.
Substantial Funding Injection
Amid large-scale demonstrations in London, the American leader was accompanied by the king and queen through a first day that ended in a formal dinner but kept him out of reach of his critics.
The UK government announced what was described as the biggest ever funding deal in the nation, with £150bn pledged from US sources.
Within this amount, £90 billion was a commitment from the investment group the firm to channel funds in the United Kingdom over the coming ten years. This was in addition to £10 billion the company had previously allocated to an artificial intelligence data center.
